Reflexology
| Reflexology is a wonderful treatment for people of all ages and with a wide variety of medical conditions. In reflexology, certain areas of the feet (known as reflex points) are believed to relate to different parts of the body. Working on the feet using special thumb and finger movements will help your whole body to relax and to function better. Reflexology promotes a state of balance within the body – this state is known as homeostasis. Many physical problems are related to stress and can be helped using reflexology. Reflexology relaxes the mind and the body, and supports your body in its natural ability to heal itself. | |
Reflexology has been practiced since ancient times (there is evidence of this from Egypt, India and China, as well as from the American Indians). Since the 1900s, modern reflexology has been developed in the West. It is beginning to be used by the NHS.
Initial Consultation
Before our first reflexology treatment, it is essential that we have an initial consultation. The main purposes of the consultation are
- To identify what you hope to gain from reflexology, and to explain reflexology to you
- To allow you and the therapist to get to know each other
- To talk about you and your medical history, including any medications you are taking, and any medical conditions you may have
- To allow an initial assessment of your feet
The initial consultation normally takes about 20 - 30 minutes and is free of charge. If treatment is found to be appropriate for you, and you wish to go ahead, then we can do the first treatment for £30.
Please note that all information gathered is treated in the strictest confidence.
Treatment Outline
Treatment can commence once the initial consultation has taken place. The normal pattern of a treatment is:
- Suzie will review your case notes with you to identify how you have fared since the previous treatment, and to note any changes to your medications or medical conditions.
- You will be asked to remove all footwear (including socks or tights), and to lie on the couch - this is raised at the head end so that we can communicate easily throughout the treatment. If you are wearing trousers, you will be asked to roll them up a bit so that they are not marked by the wax used during treatment.
- Your feet will be cleaned with baby wipes, then massaged to relax them, and to get them used to being touched.
- Your feet will then be treated (using a special Reflexology wax), paying attention to any tender or painful areas that you identify.
- On second and subsequent treatments, we may select relevant areas for extra work.
- At the end of the treatment, your feet will be moisturised and you will have a little time to relax and discuss how the treatment went. During this time we will record all the discomfort noted and crunchiness found.
A one hour treatment is standard, but a longer treatment can be given if stress is a significant issue for you, if you have complex medical conditions, or if you just want to have a longer treatment.
